The Big GEDCOM Web Site
HELP, NOTES, MISTAKES, QUESTIONS, ETC.
  1. Instead of "Sources" for the information, the word "References" is used. This is because a lot of the information contained in the Big gEDcom comes from individuals and not true 'sources'. Please submit a source if you see an item referenced to an individual or secondary source.
  2. Due to a flaw in Family Tree Maker, links to multiple-references don't work correctly. Clicking on them will bring you to the end of the References page. Scroll up to see the correct Reference.
  3. Due to a flaw in Family Tree Maker, there is no way to add a reference to an individual's name. This reference will be included on the Birth or Death date line.
  4. Some lists of children are not in correct order. Please bring these to our attention.
  5. The comments of the 'keeper' of the Big gEDcom are usually contained in curly brackets { }.
  6. The "number of individuals per file" option of GED2HTML has been set to '1'. This allows faster access when browsing a family line. Also, more information has been added to each page to make browsing faster & easier.
  7. Some individuals may be included in the Big gEDcom more than once. This is because there is no proof that these individuals were the same person. If you see this case, please submit a correction & the source.
  8. If any information should be removed due to privacy concerns, please inform us.
  9. We've tried to make the site as quick as possible to browse; and compatible with the many Web Browsers out there. Tables & Frames have not been used, and one may browse the site with 'graphics off' and not lose any information.
  10. The "~" character when used between dates in the index pages means "lived between".
  11. Every person in the genealogy should be connected. We've decided not to include non-attached lines.
  12. What do the little red P's, C's & S's mean? An "S»" notation means the person has a spouse, a "C»" notation - children, and a "P»" notation - parents.
  13. If you know of any Web sites that may complement the Big gEDcom site, please let us know and they can be added to the "Related Areas" page.
  14. People who's given names are unknown are listed as "? Lastname".
  15. People who's surnames are unknown are listed as "Firstname ?".
  16. If there is an uncertainty about a name it is listed as "Name?".
  17. Nicknames or AKA's are usually listed in quotes or parenthesis.
  18. Several event (birth, death, etc.) locations are listed as "prob." or "poss.", this means that the location is an educated guess.
  19. Several birth locations are listed as "of" someplace, this means that the location could be where the person lived or was brought up, not necessarily born.
  20. There is an Abbie and an Abby with the same father (Capt. Isaac, different mother, on Sarah Campbell, the other Sarah Jacobus. Abby also has a brother, listed twice.
