INDEX / HELP  / REFERENCES

Notes

Ref#105:
Uzal BALL was married twice. He is listed in the DAR Patriot Index: b
3-20-1747/8 d 4-9-1799 m Abigail Burnett PVT NJ

The only record of Abigail Burnet that looks likely, does not list her
parents. In "First Settlers of Passaic Valley", published in 1852 by
John Littell, on page 34, it mentions an Enoch Ball (not Uzel Ball) who
married an Abigail Burnet.

Uzel Ball was born c.1750 and married Abigail. Either her maiden name was
Burnet or her married name. One source has her as being previously the
wife of David Burnet who died leaving her with several children. I don't
know if it's true as the dates don't go together for Abigail, widow of
David Burnet and my Abigail Burnet. I have a hunch now that it was her
maiden name.

The children of Uzel Ball -- son of Timothy Ball (1711-1758) and Sarah
Davis (d. 1775/8) -- and Abigail were: Enoch, Jonathan, Noah, Lafayette,
Rachel, Rhoda (who. m. Wm M. Johnson in 1804), and Mariah. They were all
from Jefferson Village, NJ which was later known as Maplewood, NJ.

Data for the Ball branch starting from Uzel taken from email message from

Ref#51:
In Capt. Isaac Gillam's comp. 1780 were privates Uzal & David Ball (s/o
Timothy).

Ref#214:
Timothy Ball's last will and testament is reprinted here in full.
Timothy was Uzal's father and at the time of writing, the family home was
still standing and was known as " Ye Old Washington Inn." ..."The house
is on the Ridgewood or mountainside road, between Orange and Springfield,
about three miles from either place and a short distance from either, the
South Orange or the Maplewood railroad station. In the front chimney,
above the peak of the roof, is a stone inscribed 'T. & E.B. 1743'
(Timothy and Esther Ball), the date of the building."... It was this
house in which Gen. Washington was said to have stabled his horse in the
kitchen! I wish I had a copy of this book!
