He was born on a farm near Madison Center, Hancock County, Iowa in 1898.
He was a farmer for many years and then began working as a carpenter.
After he moved to California in 1957 he began working for a local
contractor and built cabinets and
checkerboard end tables for his family! He loved music (he played the
trumpet), Lawrence Welk, working in his shop, gardening, the LA Dodgers
and taking Sunday drives. He also kept many scrapbooks during his
lifetime. (See booklet entitled Old
