Feb 25th, 1683 - Item - Samuel Lyon hath Liberty to give Zopher Beach two
Acres of Land, to build on.
From Ric Schroeder on Zophar. B. May 27, 1662. Removed to Newark, N.J. He
followed a married sister and it is recorded in the Newark records on
2/25/1683, that "Samuel Lyons hath liberty to give Zophar Beach 2 acres
of ground to build on." He did not build on this land, however, but
traded the same for another piece of ground and received a deed from
Samuel Lyons and Sarah his wife on 3/2/1687-8. He was town assessor in
1695-1697 and 1699; a townsman in 1691-93 and in 1709 on a committee to
provide a man for Surveyor General. Witnessed the will of Steven Bond,
11/6/1694. Received a patent for a house lot of two acres 4/27/1696.
Witnessed the will of Thomas Pierson, Sr. of Newark on 1/12/1697-8; that
of John Curtis of Newark on 9/11/1704.
He married Martha, daughter of Deacon John PRATT of Milford, CT. b.
1679. Children born in Newark, N.J.: Josiah b. 1695, Epenetus b. Aug
1696 d. 6/14/1750, md. 1st Mary ?, 2nd Phebe widow of Mr. Kinney, Samuel
b. 1698, md. Sarah ?, Zophar md. Jane Davis.

to William Wilson of Nework and cousin John Curtis of Stratford, the son
