The Settlers' Monument in Fairmount Cemetery
is 22 feet high. It stands on a granite base 8 feet square. The
7-foot high figure of the Puritan, manufactured in Bridgeport, Connecticut,
is a metal structure painted gray to give it the appearance of stone. Some
say the figure represents Robert Treat,
leader of the first group of settlers.
