Notes

From a family NOTE ory written by Howard Ball (her grandson) in 1948:

Nancy and the girls spun and wove the wool from the sheep, dyed the cloth
with walnut or butternut bark, and made up the cloth into garments. I do
not know how they managed for shoes.

Nancy Glover, wife of John, was an energetic little body, not more than
five feet six. The easy going, care-free ways of John were annoying at
times, but they managed to get along without harsh words from John. Each
managed the affairs of their respective kingdoms. She had a strong
affection for her two brothers and one sister, and letters passed between
them two or three times a year. Her mother's name was Malinda. Her great
uncle was the Col. Glover that assisted Washington at the crossing of the
Delaware (note from JTR: this has been found to be incorrect). She had
one week of schooling and could hardly write until her children left
home, and then she became fairly expert and could compose a good letter.
Devotional reading was her relaxation, also her flower garden. The news
of the day she gathered from the conversation in the home.

Nancy was a good cook. The farm brought forth abundantly of milk, butter,
meat and eggs, vegetables, and a limited amount of small fruit. But of
vitamins, calories, and a balanced diet there was unfortunate ignorance.

Damascus Pioneer Cemetery, Oregon Records show death on 18 Jun 1897 at 81
years of age. Probably birth is 1816 not 1815?
